Air passengers are braced for further delays after warnings that a “new ash cloud” is spreading towards the UK as the volcano eruption in Iceland “strengthened”.

Europe’s biggest travel operator TUI Travel has said the disruption caused by the volcanic ash has cost the group about £20m ($30m; 23m euros) so far.

British airports have been closed after a massive cloud of ash from a volcano in Iceland drifted into UK airspace.
Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Belfast and Glasgow airports have been completely shut.
British Airways current head of sales and marketing plus two former senior sales and marketing executives and a spin doctor are due to appear at Southwark Crown Court today. All four are charged with price-fixing, which was criminalised by the 2002 Enterprise Act, and face up to five years in jail and unlimited fines if found guilty.
