Conference Jobs Guide

Conference management entails the running of events including conventions and conferences. Conference planning is often a time-consuming and highly pressured task that takes place well in advance of the actual date. However, despite this forward thinking, there will always be a need for conference jobs on the day to ensure the event goes to plan accordingly and any problems are solved quickly. What is Involved in Conference Jobs? There are several levels in conference planning work, so the tasks and activities can vary greatly depending on the amount of experience and types of event. However, generally speaking the following can be expected in conference management roles: •    Researching, planning and presenting all that is involved in a conference to the client or to their own organisation •    Arranging and agreeing on a budget •    Organising equipment required for the day •    Booking an appropriate venue •    Arranging catering and accommodation •    Contacting and briefing speakers for the event •    Dealing with the post-conference aspects like press releases and requesting feedback Skills Conference jobs are unique in their nature, and progress can only be made within this field with plenty of experience and demonstration of the suitable skills. These include: •    Excellent communication and negotiation •    Attention to detail •    Sales expertise •    Working effectively under high pressure •    Working antisocial hours •    Exceptional organisation Training and Entry Conference management is a career that is largely based on learning on the job. However, there are courses available from a number of bodies that can enhance your chances in an application. The typical salary in conference planning can vary greatly depending on the organisation and its location. Graduates in conference jobs can expect to earn between £14,000 and £17,000. With progression, this can increase to £30,000 per year.
