Book Keeper, £30K, London

Our client is a well established inbound tour operator specialising in tailor-made tours of the British Isles and Ireland. The company are seeking an experienced Book Keeper to join their established team.

Your role as Book Keeper will involve working closely with the Directors of the company. The successful candidate will provide a professional and timely accounting service in respect of general ledger, sales ledger, purchase ledger and cash book maintenance.

Duties and responsibilities of a Book Keeper:

  • Sales and Purchase Ledger
  • Setting up new client / supplier accounts and maintain existing account details within the sales and purchase ledger
  • Pay out money via BACS as well as prepayments to suppliers
  • Running off weekly sales and purchase reports
  • To enter purchase and sales invoices into the TAS accounting system, ensuring they are completed in line with company policies and posted to the relevant nominal code
  • Credit Control
  • Reconciliation of credit card and banking
  • Daily accounts
  • Entering receipts/prepayments from clients into TAS account system as well as Reservation system onto relevant bookings.
  • Entering payments/prepayments to suppliers into TAS.
  • Monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts, petty cash and company credit cards


The skills required of the Book Keeper are as follows:

  • Relevant knowledge and understanding in a similar role and industry. Preference will be giving to candidates who are currently working in the tourism industry.
  • The candidate must be a hands on person. Have a strong customer service focus and the ability to build effective working relationships with employees and external stakeholders/suppliers.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and to process deadlines.
  • Knowledge of a computerised accounting package, such as TAS or similar.
  • High attention to detail and an orderly approach to processing.
  • Sound working knowledge of MS Windows-based software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the internet.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. Able to work under pressure.


The Book Keeper role would ideally suit someone with two years experience within a similar position working within the travel industry
