Finance Assistant, London, Up to £30k

Our client is an established Tour Operator based in London that has been trading for over 20 years. They are looking to recruit an experienced Finance Assistant to handle General, Sales, Purchase ledger and cash book to join a small and friendly team, that has proven experience of working within the Travel Industry.

The key responsibilities of the Finance Assistant are as follows:

  • Setting up new client / supplier accounts and maintain existing account details within the sales and purchase ledger
  • Producing sales invoices and credit notes where required.
  • Running off weekly sales and purchase reports
  • Credit control - Chasing up outstanding debts before the client is due to arrive into the UK.
  • Check and reconcile supplier statements and file
  • Deal with purchase enquiries
  • Process staff expenses
  • Enter purchase and sales invoices into the TAS accounting system
  • Distribute purchase ledger invoices to the relevant departments for sign off.
  • Prepare supplier invoices for payment by producing the suggested payment report and pay though BACS
  • Reconciliation of sales, supplier and petty cash, credit card on monthly basis
  • Record cash receipts and make bank deposits
  • Balance sheet and profit and loss accounts
  • Issue financial statements
  • Provide information to the external accountant who creates the company’s financial statements and payroll.
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested
  • VAT return


The skills and knowledge for the Finance Assistant is as follows:

  • Experience of working in a Finance position in the Travel Industry is essential
  • Experience in General, Sales, Purchase Ledger essential
  • Knowledge of a computerised accounting package, such as TAS or similar.
  • High attention to detail and an orderly approach to processing.
  • Sound working knowledge of MS Windows-based software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the internet.
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism. Able to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing, in English.
  • Must be able to keep client matters strictly confidential.
