Operations Manager - London - up to £37k basic

This independent Tour Operator who specialise in the activity travel sector are looking for a UK Operations Manager to manage the operations department and the provision of all transport for all programmes as well as managing and developing their reservation system.


Reservation System:

  • To act as the key contact for the res system provider, coordinating and managing any software development requirements, upgrades etc. 
  • Responsible for loading all product and prices on the res system within agreed timescales, whilst liaising with other managers.
  • Make recommendations for future res system developments in line with business objectives.

General Operations and Sales Support:

  • Recruit, train and manage all operations staff
  • Responsible for the correct provision of all client invoices from the res system in line with business objectives
  • Responsible for the correct booking of all 3rd party elements of all packages sold
  • Responsible for the development and provision of all client documentation from the res system
  • Producing and checking data from the res system and supplying overseas Managers and transfer co-ordinators with correct data and updates.
  • Provision of training and written manuals for sales teams and sales support staff with regards to transport provision.
  • Responsible for providing and organising duty cover on weekdays and weekends for all programmes and maintaining all duty office paperwork.  
  • Responsible for reviewing, implementing and training all staff on crisis procedures, and taking a lead role in the event of a crisis.

Transport Operations:

  • Responsible for negotiating and contracting the transport programme for all products
  • Responsible for ensuring all transport (including Trains/ Ferries ) is supplied and maintained correctly to maximise sales
  • Establish contacts with other operators and airlines to compile flying programme information to allow purchase and sale of transport seats.
  • Responsible for purchasing and selling of adhoc seats to achieve maximum load factors on committed seats and maximum occupancy of committed beds
  • Responsible for the issue of all manifests for all ancillary suppliers
  • Assuming overall responsibility for the system of scheduled ticketing and being the key point of liaison with GDS and IATA  re: BSP returns and ADMS
  • Produce statistics relating to transport load factors. Analyse these statistics and provide effective and proactive support for sales
  • Responsible for reconciling transport costs and producing financial analysis as agreed with line manager.
  • Contract and brief all airport representatives, being their main point of contact and providing them with up to date information as required.  
  • Liaise with operators, brokers, airlines and agents with regard to market trends and work with sales and marketing manager’s and make recommendations for future programmes.
  • Responsible for organising of all UK and Resort staff travel arrangements in the most cost-effective way.



  • Experience of staff supervision and recruitment
  • GDS ( preferably Amadeus ) and ticketing experience 
  • Superb attention to detail
  • Commercial acumen
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational and planning ability
  • Excellent Microsoft Office ( inc. Excel ) skills
  • Ability to initiate ideas for development
  • Self-motivated


  • Previous logistics experience gained working for a tour operator 
  • Previous yield management experience
  • Negotiating experience
  • Previous experience of charter flight management.
  • Experience of managing software developments  ( eg res systems )
  • Customer service experience
