Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre is a 29 bed award-winning level 1 provider of specialist inpatient rehabilitation for adults and adolescents (aged 16 years and above) with a traumatic or acquired brain injury. Working in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, we provide comprehensive assessment, rehabilitation and therapy and specialise in the treatment of patients with complex physical and cognitive impairments, challenging behaviours and neuropsychiatric disorders resulting from a brain injury. We have a large Multi-Disciplinary Team based at the Centre, comprising of Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Rehab Assistants and Technicians, Catering / Housekeeping and Administrative staff. Our centre is located on the former Frenchay hospital site in Bristol, just off the M32 and M5 motorways. We are currently expanding our site to provide a new slower-stream rehabilitation service for a further 23 patients who require a longer period of rehabilitation. Our new hospital will be completed in summer 2016.

In your role as a Rehabilitation Assistant you will help the patients achieve their full potential by carrying out programmes produced by the Therapists. This will include self care, social and recreational tasks as well as exercise programmes from speech and language therapy and physiotherapy. So as a Rehabilitation Assistant what do you need to do to make this happen?


  • To assist trained staff and to carry out assigned duties

  • To assist therapists with rehabilitation procedures

  • To participate in self-care and personal hygiene requirements of the clients

  • To assist patients with meal preparation and kitchen activities

  • To carry out activities with patients under the supervision of therapists

  • To act as escort when required

  • To attend all relevant in service and statutory training

  • To comply with all regulations laid down in respect of Health and Safety for residents, visitors and staff

  • Be involved in maintaining and developing a high standard of the care for the person by being aware of their individual needs and care programmes

  • Report to the designated therapist any information given by the person or their relative and any incident or observation which may affect their physical or mental well being

  • To help to provide an environment which is helpful to people with varied and complex needs realising their potential to live as independently as they can find possible

  • Practice within a legal framework encompassing statutory, organisational policy and guidelines
