Working in partnership with Preston City Council Mill Bank Wellbeing Centre houses and supports 36 homeless households with a variety of needs and aspirations.
We are looking for flexible and customer-focused Night Hostel Workers to join our team on a relief contract where you will have the opportunity to build on your skills and knowledge and become a part of the Places for People Living+ family.
What your role will be
As a Night Hostel Worker you will maintain the cleanliness and fabric of the scheme whilst demonstrating a patient and tolerant attitude towards residents. In this role you will carry out regular safety checks on communal and external areas, identify necessary repairs in external areas and pass all relevant information onto the appropriate person and ensure all administration of safety checks is up to date.
You will carry out effective, regular cleaning of communal areas and void properties and provide nightly handover reports on relevant activity throughout your shift to other colleagues with in the project work team liaising with them to resolve problems of any nature at your work place.
As this is a relief role required to cover any absence, holidays or additional resource requirements, your weekly hours will vary. However the working hours of your shift will be 9pm - 9am as we support a 24 hour service on site. Therefore we welcome applications from individuals who can offer a flexible approach to their working days as at times you may be asked to cover a shift at short notice.
You will have experience working with at-risk service users, ideally within homeless, recovery or mental health services coupled with an understanding of health and safety practices in the workplace.
Ideally you will have some understanding of support planning, risk assessments and be able to evidence at interview your commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
Strong communication skills, the ability to prioritise your work load and an empathetic character are essential.
Finally, you will enjoy working as part of a team whilst being able to demonstrate what a successful 'team player' looks like and where you meet this. As you will be lone working, it is essential that you can work effectively and safely on your own using your initiative.
